European Countries Are Not Well-informed About Armenophobia in Azerbaijan – PM Pashinian
Armenophobia is a broadly-spread phenomenon in Azerbaijan, while European countries are not well-informed about that, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinian said in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
“Officer of the Armenian Armed Forces Kurken Markarian was killed by an axe by Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, when the Armenian was asleep. They were both in Budapest participating in a NATO seminar. That incident happened in 2004. A few years after being imprisoned for life in Hungary, the Azerbaijani officer was extradited to his country, where he was welcomed as a national hero. President of Azerbaijan pardoned him, he was promoted and was provided with an apartment in Baku”, Pashinian said.
Nikol Pashinian emphasized that the fact is that there is a conflict, which needs a solution.
“When I became Prime Minister, I made a suggestion. I said that any solution to the conflict should be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan. I am the only Armenian leader to make such an announcement. I was seriously criticized in my country. Many people asked why the Armenian leader should take care of the Azerbaijani people. But any solution can be firm, if the interests of all 3 sides of the conflict are taken into account. I hoped that President Aliyev would make a similar announcement. It’s over one year I am waiting for it, but it does not happen. If it takes place, we will record a real progress in the negotiations. I hope that our European partners and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs will encourage Aliyev to accept this concept”, Pashinian said.
