Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Katherine Clark has slammed the he U.S. Senate’s Block of Armenian Genocide Resolution, Armadio reports.

“It is a disgrace that Senate Republicans blocked the overwhelmingly bipartisan resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide after meeting with Turkish President Erdogan,” Rep. Clark said in a statement.

“We have a moral obligation to stand up and recognize atrocities, past and present. If we don’t, we risk repeating them. I call on my Republican colleagues in the Senate to put politics aside, recognize the truth, and vote their conscience,” she added.

The statement comes after Republicans in the U.S. Senate blocked a vote on a resolution passed on October 29, 2019 by the House of Representatives to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide. This rejection of the massive bipartisan consensus of the House, countless historians, and survivors is disrespectful to the Armenian-American community.

Congresswoman Clark proudly cosponsored, voted for, and spoke on the floor about the Armenian Genocide resolution.
