Charles Castronovo & Asmik Grigorian Win Big At The International Opera Awards

The International Opera Awards have announced its annual awards.

Charles Castronovo and Asmik Grigorian took the Male Singer and Female Singer of the year awards. This was Grigorian’s second Opera award. She previously won the young singer award in 2016, reports operawire.com

Meanwhile, Sonya Yoncheva won the Readers Award and Marina Viotti was the winner of the Young Singer Award. Marc Albrecht was the Conductor of the Year amd the Company Opera of the Year award went to Opera Vlaanderen.

During the ceremony, legendary soprano Leontyne Price received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She was not present but sent a message. “To say that I am overwhelmed is an understatement. I am always delighted when my artistry meets such high-level recognition. It has always served to remind me that it is the artists’ mission to take their art to the people. It was an honour to be able to share my art with so many people. Please express my gratitude to the nominating and selection committee for this honour. I appreciate this tribute more than words could ever express.”

The ceremony featured performances by Castronovo, Vivica Genaux, David Butt Philip, Anna Patalong, and Oliver Johnston.
